Three weeks ago, James Maxwell’s wife died in a car accident, but he hasn’t been able to tell his five-year old daughter the heartbreaking truth behind her mother’s death. Instead, he packs them up and leaves for a summer resort in upstate New York to spend a few peaceful weeks and to gradually break the news. But a spirited and outspoken maid at the resort has figured out his secret.
After witnessing her mother’s violent death at the hands of her stepfather, Madison Smith has turned aimless and bitter toward the world—men, in particular. Her dead-end job at the local resort and her convenient girlfriend barely keep Madison from falling apart. When she meets James, however, she’s driven to protect his child from the darkness she sees inside him.
A forbidden kiss…
But Madison doesn’t expect to find that very darkness irresistible. Drowning in guilt and memories, neither does James expect to be drawn to the sharp-witted woman who has made his life miserable. When their tempers flare, a brutal kiss triggers a need that blurs the lines of hate and desire. As their lust spins out of control, they must decide if their attraction is worth fighting for or if love is the real enemy.

4TLOR Review ~ by Lou
Okay…. so this book has totally blown me away. It’s really not going to be everyone’s cup of tea, but it was certainly mine. There will be triggers for some, and there will be parts of this story that many people will not want to continue reading for that reason. This really isn’t your average romance (there’s nothing traditional, filled with hearts and flowers to be seen here…!), but if you can get past that and read through whats on the surface, get to the messages, you will LEARN so much, FEEL so much and not help but enjoy it, LOVE it, devour it…
I’ve got to say, I highlighted soooo much in this book. There was so much I had to absorb, I knew I’d want to come back to it and get my thoughts together. I devoured the story, and although it was uncomfortable at times, made me cringe, and I didn’t always agree with the characters decisions, that was the beauty of it for me. Something about it just clicked!
Call it my weird mind, call it what you will… but I felt like I was reading something I shouldn’t have been, a guilty pleasure, something dark, something real, something raw, something that destroys, but something that was intriguing and evoked a whole lot of love and passion.
“You push me and push me and push me. Every single moment with you is a battle.”
This story takes us on a journey with Madison and James. Both characters are so broken, so tortured and so damaged, yet in this book they come together with a huge amount of pain and heart break and an element of understanding. What these two characters have is forbidden and full of pain. With so much self-loathing from each of the characters, they are in a constant battle against one another.
Both characters are so totally screwed and f***ed up in the worst possible way, you may wonder what redeeming qualities they have…. but they do… honestly just experience them for yourself. I’m at a loss of words how to explain it!
“You’re right. Every moment with us is a battle. A war. And I’m going to win this war James. You’re going to lose.”
The characters are so complex and deep, with so many layers to them. The secondary characters are a great addition as well and I absolutely ADORED little Katie.
I really don’t want to say too much about the story line and where this book will take you for fear of ruining anything. Go in blind, keep your mind open and just experience this superb debut novel from this author who is certainly one to watch in my opinion!
The writing style in this book is simply amazing. Saffron really made me FEEL every last emotion going in this book – I cried and I felt devastated. I grieved but I also laughed. For an author to evoke so many feelings from me, especially when it concerns the story line the way it did, is something special.
Even a few days after reading this book, I’m still thinking about it and wanting to do a re-read again so soon! Brilliant!
***** 5 ‘I’m not really sure what’s going on in my mind right now’ STARS! *****

My stories are grey-shaded and NC-17. I write what I love to read. And what I love to read is always twisted and angsty and emotional. My characters desperately need therapy. They tend to kiss a lot too, among other naughty things.
