I loved him more than life.
He broke me and he didn’t even know it.
I ran from him.
He didn’t chase me.
He never needed to, because he knew I’d come back.
He was right.
Death brought me home to him.
Drop dead gorgeous and filthy-mouthed with a smile that turns saints to sinners.
A casanova to his core.
My ex-best friend.
And the bad boy whose reputation precedes him—the same reputation I’m tasked with turning to gold… Or so they think.

I just thought I’d start with saying, Emma Hart can write anything, and I mean ANYTHING! And there is no doubt that I’d read it and love it 😉
Lani Montana used to live in Whiskey Key where she was the stereo typical nerd with her head constantly in a book, her best friends Camille & Brett Walker were the only reason she got through high school unscathed. However she still left town broken hearted.
She returns 8 years later and has to face her past…
The quick wit and banter between Lani and Brett is hilarious, although they didn’t exactly see eye to eye straight away the sexual tension between them was there from the start. It was a nice slow burn between them. But when it gets burning it’s scorching between them.
Brett may be, in Lanis words a Casanova but he is really a big softie underneath it all, and I love that Lani is the one to show it, even though he hurt her she’s determined to prove everyone wrong about him.
We learn about Brett’s apparent mistakes over the last 8 years and how things could have been so different if theyd have just spoken to each other, but then there would be no story to tell, and “the thing” wouldn’t have happened.
Once again another outstanding book by Emma Hart that I’ll be adding to my paperback collection. Was it my favourite of hers?? I think I have to say no as my heart is still with Droelle in Hollywoods but it’s definitely up there behind them.

Second chance romances are always hit and miss for me, sometimes they hit the spot perfectly and other times they fall flat on they arse and just leave you with a bad taste in your mouth.
Thankfully, Emma is the type of author that takes a genre by the horn and writes it from the heart, adding a perfect dose of emotion, wit, humour and herself stamped all over it. The book flows and the words carry of the page allowing you to fully immerse into the story.
The storyline between Brett and Lani their school friendship, turned to 8 years of hate and betrayal, and the reunion from hell, the secrets and the ‘Thing’ leave you intrigued as you turn the page.
It’s a sweet tale of romance and second chances and it was a beautiful read.
Looking forward to the next story in the series.
4 wonderful stars
By day, New York Times and USA Today bestselling New Adult author Emma Hart dons a cape and calls herself Super Mum to two beautiful little monsters. By night, she drops the cape, pours a glass of whatever she fancies – usually wine – and writes books.
Emma is working on Top Secret projects she will share with her followers and fans at every available opportunity. Naturally, all Top Secret projects involve a dashingly hot guy who likes to forget to wear a shirt, a sprinkling (or several) of hold-onto-your-panties hot scenes, and a whole lotta love.
She likes to be busy – unless busy involves doing the dishes, but that seems to be when all the ideas come to life.
