He wore the skin of a killer, and bore the heart of a lover…
There’s nothing Truman Gritt won’t do to protect his family–Including spending years in jail for a crime he didn’t commit. When he’s finally released, the life he knew is turned upside down by his mother’s overdose, and Truman steps in to raise the children she’s left behind. Truman’s hard, he’s secretive, and he’s trying to save a brother who’s even more broken than he is. He’s never needed help in his life, and when beautiful Gemma Wright tries to step in, he’s less than accepting. But Gemma has a way of slithering into people’s lives and eventually she pierces through his ironclad heart. When Truman’s dark past collides with his future, his loyalties will be tested, and he’ll be faced with his toughest decision yet.
4TLOR Review by Jordan
Truman grew up with a drug addict mum and a little brother, he did what he could to survive and keep his brother looked after.
Gemma lived on the other side of the “tracks” in a gated community looked after by nannies with parents who cared more about image than family.
Both of them have lived lives so different and are complete opposites but with more in common than you’d ever think. Their story together was lovely, it shows that you don’t have to be joined through blood to be family.
The friends who Truman has called family for most of his life prove this and are a great bunch of characters and I’d love to see more of them.
This has some hard emotional topics in it, from child neglect, to drug abuse, and fierce loyalty but with the right people, all can be over come which is shown in this story. The author has done it all in a very realistic and tasteful way. Although I wish Gemma’s problems had more in there as it’s definitely something a lot of women could relate to in some way.
It really was a lovely story though and I’ll definitely be looking out for more of Melissa’s books.
