Meet Richard VanRyan a tyrant and asshole of a boss, he has been passed over for a promotion at work and he is pissed. He doesn’t like his PA but she is perfect so can’t get rid of her, the tyraid of abuse he throws at her she accepts and gets the job done. She’s a walk over, a doormat and timid as hell.
Richard needs to leave, but doesn’t want to leave the city he’s in, there’s only one other company he can work for and they have a rules family and integrity come first neither of which Richard possess particularly with his playboy ways so how does he get his foot in the door …..
Katy, isn’t the walk over Richard thinks she is, she silently takes his crap and lives in squalor because she puts Penny (her aunt) before herself, she has Alzheimer’s and her care costs money. Being Richards PA is the best. What she never expects is an invitation to his house and a piece of paper that will inevitably change her world on its axis.
The Contract – to become fake fiancée of Richard VanRyan for a minimum term of 6 months pay $60,000 what’s not to like right, accept the fact they have a mutual disdain for each other and now they have to live eat and pretend to love.
I loved watching their interactions and the realisations from the dual PoV, it wasn’t insta love and it was a slow and steady inter woven, inter laced feeling as Katy slowly bleed her way into Richards heart. The little tender moments when he would sweep his fingers down her cheek or kiss her nose. Or when his eyes would involuntarily follow her around a room, you as a reader new what was happening before he did, but with his back story completely understood why he was lost.
His realisations at how cruel he had been to her, when he hadn’t really known her or her back story and his apologies for it all where heartfelt and honestly I was falling in love with Richard right along with Katy.
I loved the Banter between the two and how witty, sarcastic, funny, intelligent, caring and strong Katy came across and I think that’s what made this story more believable. Especially with one one of of my favourite quote of the books.
“Go fuck yourself, VanRyan”
The interaction with the Gavin family was lovely too, testing the waters, but at the same time I loved the instant connection Katy had with Jenna and totally get the coffee in the morning scene. And I laughed out loud.
I cried at particular moments of this book especially after you realised how much Richard had found love for Penny and how he dealt with Katy and then the dawning, beautiful moment !
Overall for my first experience of Melanie as a writer I’m truly impressed and thoroughly enjoyed this book there where lots of moments of disdain, frustration, laugh out loud, high fives , love and tears which is all you want from a super sweet and sexy book
5 wonderfully deserved stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
It’s not very often you discover a new author, read their book and are find it ticks EVERY SINGLE BOX! This was just the read I was looking for, having dipped in and out of a few books the last few weeks, this one totally and utterly consumed me. I started first thing in the morning and was finished during the afternoon – I simply could not put it down.
Simply from reading the blurb, the storyline had me hooked. And then I actually met Richard VanRyan and Katy. What absolutely fantastic characters. Richard is your typically mean, career driven, business focused, takes no nonsense, man. He’s not particularly nice to those around him, but he doesn’t care – all he needs to do is succeed in the business world. He’s particularly ruthless and just horrible, to his personal assistant Katy, treating her like his slave, run around dogsbody, someone to shout at, moan at and generally make her day to day working life a living nightmare. Katy on the other hand has some private problems which means she desperately needs her job and will actually put up with anything to ensure she gets her monthly salary. Then one day things change for Richard within the company he works for, meaning he wants to head in a different direction for his personal gain and career advances and also to get revenge…. But in order to do this he has an offer for Katy; a contract he’s desperate for her to sign.
I don’t want to say too much without giving away any spoilers, and although at times the story could be deemed slightly predictable, it’s actually just perfect. And there are a few surprises along the way! It’s sweet, sexy, hilariously funny at times, but at others makes you angry and sad. I went through ALL of the emotions reading this story; I laughed and cried, I swooned and felt frustrated! Loved it!
I would recommend this to anyone wanting a lovely, sexy, easy to read story with plenty of twists, turns and a few surprises thrown in!
5 MASSIVE “Go F£@& yourself, VanRyan” STARS!!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Melanie delights in a good romance story with some bumps along the way, but is a true believer in happily ever after. When her head isn’t buried in a book, it is bent over a keyboard, furiously typing away as her characters dictate their creative storylines to her, often with a large glass of wine keeping her company.
